Dr.
Freda Porter is a leader in developing and implementing processes
to apply biosolids from wastewater treatment facilities to farmlands.
In 1996, Dr. Porter worked with executives and engineers of Vac-Con,
Inc. in Florida to design a device and procedure that would reduce
costs of handling wastewater treatment facility residuals.
The partnership
has led to the development of a specially designed spreader that
can be mounted on the rear door of any Vac-Con unit.
The innovation has led to a growth in land application of biosolids
in areas where farmland is nearby and plentiful. The design has
cut costs and improved the efficiency of biosolids application.
Porter
Environmental was featured in CLEANER Magazine in the EXPO February
2001 issue for its contribution to the design of the Spreader.
